Fire-related incidents claim two lives, 510 houses gutted

Two persons were killed, eleven others were injured and 510 houses razed to the ground, as incidents of fire wreaked havoc in several districts of Bihar today, officials said.

In Madhubani, a major fire broke out in Chapahi village under Andhrathari police station area area destroying 150 houses, as one Ramdev Rai (60) was charred to death and two others sustained burn injuries, Andhrathari’s Block Development Officer (BDO) Ajit Kumar said.

The fire erupted from kitchen of a house and soon spread to adjoining houses due to gusts of hot westerly winds, he said, adding fire tenders were pressed into service to douse the flames.

A report from Sitamarhi said a five-year-old girl Rubi Kumari was burnt to death in a blaze which occurred in the Akhdiha village under Majorganj police station area destroying 18 houses.

In Patna, 45 huts in a slum located under Shastrinagar police station area were razed to ground in a fire, while a child suffered burn injuries, according to a Bihar State Disaster Management Department official, while in Vaishali district 40 huts were destroyed in a similar incident in the Bazipur Chakwa slam as six persons, including a woman, sustained burn injuries.

The injured persons were admitted to a Primary Health Centre (PHC) at Sahdei block for treatment, a police officer said.

In Khalwatola khap locality in West Champaran district and Bachhwara jamia village in Begusarai district, 100 thatched houses were gutted in a fire, while in Samastipur district, 56 huts were destroyed in a blaze in Harail Chapar village under Mohiuddinagar police station area.

In Siwan district 12 houses were razed to ground and two persons injured in fire in Chakri village under Darauli police station area, while seven houses were gutted in another incident in Bhawanipur village in Madhepura district.
