Five killed, two injured in road accidents

Five persons were killed and two others injured in road accidents in Bihar’s Rohtas and Araria districts, police said today. 

A speeding Bolero Jeep with five occupants collided head-on with a truck near Ramnagar village under Nokha police station area in Rohtas district last night in which three persons were killed and two others injured, the Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikas Barman said. 

The deceased persons have been identified as Manoj Kumar (35), Ranjan Kumar (37) and Arvind Kumar (40), he said, adding the bodies have been sent for post-mortem. 

The injured persons were admitted to a government hospital where the attending doctors referred the duo to Varanasi in view of their critical condition, Barman said. 

The truck driver escaped with his vehicle after the accident, the SP added. 

In a related incident in Araria district, a speeding truck crushed two dalit men to death on Raniganj-Sarson road under Raniganj police station area last night, Sub-Inspector of Police (SI) Amit Kumar said. 

The victims were identified as Mahesh Rishidev (30) and Dinesh Rishidev (25), he said, adding the bodies have been sent for post-mortem at the Sadar hospital. 

The irate local poeple badly beat up the truck driver Kamdev Yadav and cleaner Mithilesh Yadav in protest against the incident, Kumar said, adding the injured duo were taken to a hospital for treatment. 

The truck has been impounded for the purpose of investigation, the SI said.
