PATNA: Police in West Chamaparan arrested four accused on Friday night who were allegedly involved in thrashing a girl after tying her with a pillar using ropes. The matter surfaced after the video of the incident surfaced on Friday.
Bagaha SP Arvind Kumar told TOI on Saturday over phone that the incident took place on Thursday at village Kathaiyya under Naurangia police station area in the Bagaha police district of west Champaran.

“The arrested persons have been identified as Sursen Kumar (25), Hansraj Kumar (27), Kanwal Kumar (22) and Meghnath Bargharia (23),” the SP said.

He said that an FIR was also lodged with the Naurangiya police station on basis of a written complaint submitted by the victim.

He said that the incident took place when the victim had gone to her friend’s residence to meet her.

“Though the incident took place on Thursday but the video and photos of the girl being thrashed after being ties with pillar surfaced on Friday,” SP Kumar said.

He also said that immediately a team in leadership of Sadar SDPO Sanjeev Kumar was formed which arrested the four accused.

He said that the area is a belt of Tharu tribes and two girls had dispute almost a month back after which a local meeting among the tribes headed by their head known as ‘gomashta’ was held in which the victim was barred from meeting the friend with whom she had dispute, the SP said quoting the victim’s written complaint.

“The tribes hardly approach police for any matter and even the above incident was solved internally among them. None came before police even after the girl was thrashed on Thursday,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Sadar SDPO said all the four arrested accused are relatives of the girl with whom she had went to meet. “The four were named accused in the FIR lodged by the victim,” he said.

SDPO Kumar said the family members of the girl, with whom she had went to meet on Thursday, had alleged that she had posted a nude photograph of her friend on a social media platform only after which the dispute arose and she barred from meeting her friend.
