Patna: Sri Krishna Puri (SK Puri) police station on Tuesday night raided a guest house and arrested a man who was consuming liquor there. The man has been identified as Anuj Sharma, who runs Heritage Institute at Patna and Sharma Institute at Agra (Uttar Pradesh).

Sharma was arrested from a guest house at Krishna Apartment Lane where he was staying for the past 10 days. “On the basis of a tip-off, SK Puri police raided the guest house on Tuesday mid-night and nabbed Sharma who was consuming liquor,” SK Puri police station house officer (SHO) Arvind Kumar said. “The police have recovered an empty bottle from the spot and some snacks which he had ordered.”

Police sources said Sharma was staying in the guesthouse for the past 10 days and used to visit Patna at one- or two-month intervals.

He owns an institute named Heritage Institute at Krishna Apartment where he, apart from providing coaching for entry into engineering or management institutes, also counselled students for admission into different institutes, including a Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA) and BEd institute he runs in Agra. “Anuj’s main job was to provide career counselling to students,” a police officer at SK Puri said.

“He used to charge huge fees from students and provide them admission into different engineering and management institutes in Noida, Gurgaon and colleges located in the National Capital Region (NCR).

“After his arrest, Sharma tried to influence the police, claiming he had contacts with several persons including senior police officers.”

Police sources, quoting staff at the guest house, claimed Sharma, who was staying at the guest house for the past 10 days, used to spend evenings at the guesthouse and many persons used to visit him.

On Tuesday too some persons visited Sharma, but they left after spending some time.

In the past month, several persons having fairly good background, were caught by the police for defying prohibition laws.

Patliputra police station on Sunday morning nabbed an engineering graduate who was preparing for civil services exams on charges of liquor supply.

The youth was involved in liquor trade for the past few months. On June 17, Patna police, based on inputs, conducted a raid at Ali Nagar where an Oppo Mobile guest house is located and arrested Chinese national Tiandong on charges of possessing liquor.

The police had recovered two liquor bottles, one IMFL and another Nepali brand liquor, from Tiandong’s room.
