Man kills elder brother for property

2 min read

Patna: Tension gripped Bihta, 40km west of Patna on Friday morning after a man was shot dead by his younger brother over a property dispute.

Rama Yadav, 50, was killed by his younger brother Chotan Yadav. The police have arrested three persons and raids are on to nab Chotan.

“The assailant fled after the crime,” Bihta police station house officer (SHO) Ranjit Kumar Singh said. “Raids are on to nab Chotan.” He said the brothers had a dispute over a piece of land.

The incident took place in Shiv Shastri Nagar near Bihta Bazar area. The brothers had an altercation which soon escalated into a fight during which Chotan pumped bullets into his brother. Rama sustained twin injuries. He was rushed to hospital but died on the way.

Police sources said Rama dealt with sale and purchase of land in Bihta, Maner and Naubatpur areas. He had recently purchased land in Bihta.

Police sources said he was jailed in 2012 in a murder case. He was with the RJD and said to be close to MLC Ritlal Yadav, currently in jail in connection with murder, loot and extortion.

A few months back, Chotan too had joined the RJD.

The murder once again exposes the police’s tall claims of checking criminal activities in Bihta. A few months back, Patna police had set up a police picket in Bihta Bazar area and also carried out joint operations to check criminal activities. “Though Friday’s crime is an outcome of a dispute between two brothers, it has created tension among traders as criminals have no fear of the police,” said Sudama Gupta, a wholesale grains trader said.
