Officers to hear public grievances every Friday

Patna: State chief secretary Deepak Kumar on Friday asked state government officers to meet visitors/common people in their offices on every Friday to hear their grievances. The instruction is meant for officials at principal secretary/secretary/divisional commissioner, district magistrate, circle officer/block development officer, director general of police (DGP), SSPs/ SPs and SHOs level.

The officers have also been asked to ensure their presence in their office/headquarters on every Monday, Tuesday and Friday and visit their field areas on rest of the days every week.

Principal secretaries/secretaries have specifically been asked to prefer being present in the secretariat/headquarters on every Monday, Tuesday and Friday and plan state-level meetings/videoconferencing. “Principal secretaries/secretaries have been made the in charge principal secretaries/secretaries of one or more districts. In view of previous instructions, such officers are henceforth directed to ensure visit of their allotted district/districts at least once in a month,” one of the instructions says.

Generally, some of the DMs and SPs at the district headquarters discharge their work from the residential offices even during office hours. “Disposal of work from the residential offices will be prohibited during office hours,” the chief secretary’s order read.

Moreover, the DMs and SSPs/SPs have been asked to hold meetings with different stakeholders at regular intervals at district level. “For Example, principal/headmaster of colleges/high schools, students’ representatives, people associated with sports, art and culture, ward counsellors, representatives of panchayati raj institutions (PRIs), Vikas Mitras, members of chamber of commerce and industries, representatives of doctors and farmers etc. can be some important stakeholders,” the letter addressed to all departmental heads, divisional commissioners, DMs and SPs reads.

The officers, e.g. principal secretaries, secretaries, divisional commissioners, DMs, SSPs/SPs will ensure visit to the settlements (tolas) of members of SC/ST so that effective inspection of development works in their tolas could be ensured, the instruction said.
