Opium worth Rs 2 crore seized, one arrested

PATNA: Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) sleuths seized opium worth around Rs 2 crore in international market from Kamakhya-Jaipur Kavi Guru Express at Hajipur junction in Vaishali district on Friday. DRI sources said Uday Patel (26), a drug peddler, was also arrested from the train.

“The consignment, weighing around 1.9kg, was recovered from Patel’s luggage. He was travelling on berth number eight of B-5 coach,” the DRI sources added. The consignment, which originated from Imphal in Manipur, was to be delivered at Mathura in Uttar Pradesh. “The arrested person is a resident of Gahai village under Dhaka police station area in East Champaran district,” the DRI sources said, adding the drug peddler was being interrogated.
