Patna: The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) will issue birth and death certificates from its circle offices from Wednesday.

The civic body’s standing committee approved this decision on Tuesday. Till now, birth and death certificates were only issued from the PMC office on Buddha Marg. From Wednesday, though, the documents will also be issued by New Capital, Bankipore, Kankerbagh and Patna City circle offices, besides online.

Computers have been installed at all the circle offices for the work.

Sources in the PMC said the decision will help residents get the certificate from their nearest civic body office instead of having to wait in long queues at Buddha Marg.

The standing committee also approved proposals to construct a cafeteria and library on a vacant plot of PMC land near NIT-Patna; create vending zones on Boring Canal Road and near JD Women’s College on Bailey Road; and replace the vending zone near Kadamkuan with a new one.

Among the other proposals that got the green light on Tuesday were creation of a modern abattoir and funding ward councillors’ trips to other cities so that they can learn the best civic practices for implementation in Patna.

Proposals to make a commercial complex on Patna Regional Development Authority’s land and constructing another complex on a vacant plot before Saidpur Hostel were also approved, said a standing committee member on condition of anonymity.

Creation of parks was also on the agenda, as the committee approved creation of a park around a dump yard between Pandit Ramavatar Shastri roundabout and McDowell roundabout in Rajendra Nagar.

Another proposal was approved to create affordable houses on a 10-acre plot near Patna Sahib railway station besides beatification plan around the Bari Patan Devi temple premises in Patna City.
