Tejashwi job dare at PM

2 min read

Patna: RJD leader Tejashwi Prasad Yadav has thrown a challenge at Prime Minister Narendra Modi: provide jobs, farm relief and ensure violence ends against Dalits and minorities.

The young RJD leader, who was once part of the Delhi Daredevils IPL squad, tweaked Modi’s acceptance of cricket captain Virat Kohli’s fitness challenge to pose his own political challenge.

“While we have nothing against accepting fitness challenge from @imVkohli, I urge you to accept the challenge to provide jobs to young, relief to farmers, promise of no violence against dalits & minorities. Would you accept my challenge @narendramodi Sir?” Tejashwi posted on his official Twitter handle on Thursday morning.

Speaking to The Telegraph, Tejashwi went on to list what he thought were the central government’s failures.

“People are starving and there is no food to eat for the poor. If people don’t eat, how does Modiji expect them to work out for remaining fit? The poor farmers work in their field day and night to earn their livelihood, will they be bothered about food or their fitness? Modiji should first give them food and employment, then talk about the fitness challenge,” the leader of Opposition in the Assembly said.

Tejashwi stressed that he had no complaints with the fitness challenge and people should exercise to remain fit. But a person like the Prime Minister, who has the responsibility to provide food and employment to youths, only focus on the prosperous people, he said.

“People are dying in BJP-ruled states because people are not getting food to eat. But our PM is only concerned about the fitness of those who are already fit and eat a good meal,” Tejashwi said.

A few hours after Tejashwi’s tweet on Thursday, the Congress followed suit. “Glad to see you accept the @imVkohli fitness challenge. Here’s one from me: Reduce Fuel prices or the Congress will do a nationwide agitation and force you to do so. I look forward to your response,” tweeted Congress president Rahul Gandhi.

Tejashwi is rapidly carving out his own niche with his tart tweets targeting Modi and the BJP.

Last week, after Karnataka Governor Vajubhai Vala invited the BJP’s B.S. Yeddyurappa to form the government as it was the single largest party, Tejashwi announced that the RJD too deserved to be given a chance to form the government in Bihar. RJD leaders met the Bihar governor the following day with a memorandum on this. Tejashwi’s tweet triggered a flurry of visits to governors in several states by the Congress.
