1 min read

Bhagalpur: A youth killed a 45-year-old homemaker at Jaykhut village in this Bihar district, 243km from Patna, on Sunday suspecting that she practised black magic.

Asha Devi, wife of Shambhu Mandal, was killed by Ajay (25), a neighbour and also her relative. Asha was attacked with a rod when she was returning from the market with her younger daughter, Mamta, and her grandson.

Mamta, a school student, told police, “All of sudden, he attacked my mother. We cried for help but no one came forward. He hit my mother on the head with a rod till she died.”

Mamta alleged that Ajay’s kin had accused Asha of practising black magic and claimed the murder was planned.

Dev Kumar, station house officer of Goradih thana, said Ajay worked as a daily wager in Delhi. He had returned two days ago, but was absconding since the incident. “We found Ajay’s house locked. We are investigating the murder.”
