Youth commits suicide after failing in intermediate examination in Purnia

PATNA: A youth aged around 18 years allegedly committed suicide by hanging himself from ceiling inside a lodge at Shivpuri under K Nagar police station area in Purnia district in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday after he failed in intermediate examination.

K Nagar police station SHO Barun Kumar Goswami said that the youth Santosh Sagar alias Santosh Kumar Jha had written intermediate examinations conducted this year by Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) this year and he was upset after the results were declared on June 6 which he was declared fail in Physics and Chemistry.

Police, quoiting the family members of the deceased youth, said that his parents were continuously pacifying him after the results to prepare again for next year. Police said it was Santosh’s distant relative who were running the lodge in which he committed suicide.

“He used a towel to hang himself from an iron rod in the ceiling. The matter surfaced after he did not opened door for couple of hours on Sunday morning. People somehow peeped inside the room to found Santosh hanging,” police said adding no suicide note was found from spot.

They said that Santosh’s father Ganesh Kumar Jha was a farmer at village Ramai under Forbesganj police station area in Araria district while he used to live at Purnia for studies.

Quoting his relatives, police said that Santosh’s parents were fainting repeatedly since they heard the news and only close relatives had reached Purnia to collect the body.

“The body was handed over to them after post mortem. He was the lone son. One of his relatives had submitted a written complaint that he had committed suicide due to depression after failing in examination,” police said.
