New Delhi: Prof Baidyanath Labh has been appointed the vice-chancellor of Nava Nalanda Mahavihara (NNM) University Bihar, according to an order issued today by the Personnel Ministry.
Labh, at present, is a professor at the Department of Buddhist Studies in Jammu University.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved his appointment to the post for a period of five years, it said.
The government of Bihar had established a research institute called “Magadh Institute of Post-Graduate Studies and Research in Pali and Allied Languages and Buddhist Learning” at Nalanda in 1951. It later came to be known as Nava Nalanda Mahavihara (NNM).
In November 2006, the University Grant Commission accorded it the status of a deemed to be University. It’s present campus, about 100 km from Patna, is close to the ruins of the ancient University of Nalanda.
