MU VC effects major administrative rejig

2 min read

GAYA: In a major administrative reshuffle, Magadh University (MU) vice-chancellor Prof Qamar Ahsan on Monday changed designations of key officials, including controller of examinations, director of distance education and inspector of colleges (arts and commerce). Almost all important positions earlier held by the headquarter-based teachers have now gone to teachers from Patna.

The most important change effected by the VC pertained to the post of controller of examinations. Nand Kumar, the incumbent controller, has been replaced by Bimal Prasad Singh, political science teacher A N College, Patna. Ramayan Singh, economics teacher of the same college, has been made director of distance education. He replaces Israil Khan who goes back to his parent department of psychology. Both Bimal and Ramayan Singh enjoy the confidence of the VC as the trio had been together in the A N College, Patna. Prof Ahsan had retired from the economics department of A N College on March 31 this year.

In another development, Anjum Ashrafi, history teacher of B S College, Danapur, has been made inspector of colleges (arts and commerce) replacing Sushil Kumar. Earlier, Sushil Kumar tendered his resignation from the post. It is not yet clear whether Sushil Kumar resigned on his own or he was asked to put in papers.

In what is being regarded as poor consolation for the headquarter-based teachers, Bhikhari Yadav, professor of philosophy, has been made OSD (PhD). K K Narain, OSD (exam), has been repatriated to the English department of Gaya College, Gaya.

Earlier, the VC transferred nine principals of different colleges under the university. More administrative changes in the university set up are likely as the VC is in favour of forming a new team to take on the challenges facing the university, said a source.

While the university’s exam department has got national infamy on account of numerous degree scams, the most recent being the PhD scam in which hundreds of foreigners were allegedly awarded PhD degrees fraudulently, the directorate of distance education is of the university is infamous for audit less huge monetary transactions. The two departments are under the vigilance bureau lens.
