Patna Dental College, Ayurvedic college under AKU

Patna: Two more premier medical institutions of the state – Patna Dental College and Government Ayurvedic College, Patna – have been brought under the ambit of Aryabhatta Knowledge University (AKU). A notification to this effect was issued by the state government recently.

While Patna Dental College was earlier under the academic jurisdiction of Patna University, Government Ayurvedic College was being governed by BRA Bihar University. All other government medical colleges of the state functioning under different universities had already been transferred to AKU.

With these two colleges, the total number of technical institutions brought under the AKU jurisdiction has reached to 50, said AKU vice-chancellor S N Guha. He said the ongoing examinations of previous batches in the two medical colleges would be completed by the parent universities. AKU will conduct the examinations of fresh batches, he added.

The VC is trying his best to hold AKU’s maiden convocation at the earliest so that all the pass-outs of the university may be given their original degrees. It is expected that the convocation would be held sometime after February 23.

AKU, which governs all the technical institutions including medical, engineering and management colleges of the state, is, however, yet to have a campus of its own. Though the state government has already allotted a plot of land adjacent to Chanakya National Law University at Mithapur, the construction work has not started yet. It is learnt that the Bihar Educational Infrastructural Development Corporation is likely to initiate the process by inviting tender soon.
