PATNA: The Patna police on Thursday arrested four youths from Nauawa village under the Ashthawan police station area in Nalanda district for duping people on the pretext of providing jobs in the Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited.

Patna SSP Manu Maharaaj said the accused included Paramvir Ranjan (21), Uday Shankar (31), Munna Kumar (31) and Sujeet Kumar (25), all residents of Nauawa.

It was on July 31 this year that Rakesh Ranjan, an OSD with the power firm, lodged an FIR with the Kotwali police station against unknown persons in connection with the fake job racket. The FIR said several job aspirants had received telephone calls, asking them to pay money for their appointment as accountants and lower division clerk in the power firm.

During investigations, Maharaaj said, police tracked the calls to Nauawa. “We have seized 13 cellphones from the possession of the arrested youths,” the SSP said and added a diary was also seized on the indication of the four youths.

“The diary has details of Rs 16.49 lakh collected from job aspirants,” Maharaaj said and added further investigations were on.

The gang was also involved in at least four other cases of forgery lodged with the Kotwali police station in Patna, said police sources.
