A minor girl was molested by two men, the act was filmed on camera and later made viral on the social media in Bihar’s Nalanda district, triggering outrage in the state on Tuesday.
Several similar videos of eve-teasing, molestation and even gang-rape have surfaced in Bihar in Kaimur, Jehanabad, Gaya and Patna over the last two months, raising serious questions over safety and security of females in the state.
The incident took place under Chandi police station in Nalanda, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s home district. “One person has been arrested. He is being interrogated to know the whereabouts of the others involved in the incident,” a senior police officer told DNA.
The heinous video shows a young girl forced to sit between two men, who are touching her inappropriately. The girl screams and tries to resist but the two men overpower her and continue to molest her.
The police source said the victim’s family members said she had gone to the home of a person known to her. “However, when she reached there, two unknown men were also present at the spot. Both started teasing and molesting her and tried to sexually assault her. They also made a video of the act. The family members lodged a complaint with the police when the video went viral in the media,” the officer said.
The police source said the arrested has been identified as Nandan Kumar while another accused is said to be a local functionary of the ruling Janata Dal-United (JD-U). “Being CM’s home district, everyone, especially JD-U people feel they are free to do anything there as they administration will not take any action against them,” an RJD leader said.
Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee president (in charge) Kaukab Quadri said the law and order situation was appalling in Bihar and asked the governor to take cognizance of the deteriorating state of affairs.
