8 killed in 3 road mishaps
2 min readPatna: At least eight persons were killed and equal number of people were severely injured in three road accidents in Saran, Samastipur and Begusarai on Wednesday.
Police said four persons died and eight were badly injured when a passenger vehicle carrying them turned turtle and fell in a ditch in Saran. The injured have been admitted to Chhapra sadar hospital.
The mishap occurred around 8am when the victims, said to be members of a musical group, were returning to Chanchaura Bazar in Saran from Bidupur in Vaishali. The driver of the vehicle lost control while crossing over a culvert on Chhapra-Siwan Road, causing injuries to 12 people.
While two persons died on the spot, two others succumbed to their injuries during treatment at the Chhapra sadar hospital. The condition of Pradumna Kumar, Rimjhim Kumari, Guddu Kumar, Monasisa and Kajal was stated to be critical.
Sub-inspector at Daudpur police station Ravindra Kumar said the members of the musical group were on their way to Chanchaura Bazar that falls under the jurisdiction of Rasulpur police station in Saran when the incident happened because of the driver’s negligence.
“The vehicle was running at a speed of above 80kmph. The driver was caught napping and also ignored the passengers’ advice to take rest. The vehicle has been seized,” the officer said.
A report from Samastipur said two persons were killed and four policemen were hurt when a police Jeep carrying a newlywed couple and their relatives fell into a roadside ditch under the jurisdiction of Mufassil police station in Samastipur on Wednesday.
The station house officer of Mufassil police station Kriti Kumar said the mishap occurred when a police team was returning to the police station with the newlywed and their relatives from Gyaneshwar temple in Samastipur. The police had detained the bride and the groom after receiving complaints from residents that they were minors. The injured personnel have been taken to Samastipur sadar hospital.
Two youths on a motorcycle were crushed to death by a truck near Bachhwara in Begusarai. Agitated over rash driving and the death, residents blocked the road and disrupted traffic for an hour. The bodies were handed over to the relatives after post-mortem.
