9-year-old killed after dispute

Bettiah: Unidentified men bludgeoned a nine-year-old girl to death at Dih Tola under Kesariya police station limits of East Champaran on Tuesday midnight.

Police said Nitu Kumari alias Rani was attacked with rods after she raised an alarm on seeing some people in the house around 1am. Nitu’s aunt Sunita Devi also came under attack when she came to shield her after hearing Nitu’s cries.

While the girl died instantaneously, Sunita is critical at a private hospital in Motihari. The criminals escaped after other family members raised an alarm.

“Prima facie, it looks like a case of murder. Investigations are underway,” Chakia sub-divisional police officer Mudrika Prasad said.

Her mother Prabhawati Devi told police the incident occurred barely hours after she got into a dispute with a village resident.

A case of murder has been registered against unidentified criminals, the police said.

The girl’s father, a driver by profession, is away in Delhi.
