Dal leader killed over lust: Cops

2 min read

Patna: Two days after the recovery of the JDU students’ wing leader Rakesh Kumar’s decomposed body, police in Nalanda district on Tuesday claimed to have unravelled the mystery behind his murder.

Nalanda superintendent of police Sudhir Kumar Porika said Rakesh was killed by his acquaintances for having an illicit relationship with a woman identified as Pushpa Devi. “His ulterior motive to establish physical relationship with a teenaged daughter of the woman’s relative perhaps prompted her (the woman’s) kin to kill Rakesh,” Porika said adding that the deceased had also threatened the girl’s father to kidnap her from her school.

Rakesh was found murdered on the outskirts of Alipur Pachaura village under the jurisdiction of Bena police station in Nalanda district on Sunday. He was missing since May 29 from Harnaut Bazar. The deceased’s father in-law Avinash had earlier lodged a case of kidnapping with the Harnaut police station in Nalanda.

A sniffer dog had led the police to a house at Alipur Pachaura village. The interrogation of a family member yielded tangible results leading to the arrest of Diwakar Kumar, a resident of Kharuara village. “It was Diwakar, who had hatched the conspiracy to kill the union leader,” said an investigating officer.

Rakesh used to frequently visit Diwakar’s house and wanted to establish a physical relationship with his daughter. Rakesh had already been in love with Sujata alias Sugani Devi, stated to be a sister of Diwarkar’s wife Pushpa Devi. Under a well-knit plan, Diwakar invited Rakesh to his relative Deepak’s house at Dihra on the fateful night and subsequently strangulated him to death.

Diwakar’s accomplices – Manish, Sonu and Gorelal – helped the former in the executing the plan. All the four accused, Manish, Sonu, Gorelal and Diwakar, first boozed with Rakesh at Deepak’s house and then attacked him with a hard blunt substance. Later he was strangulated to death and his body was dumped at Alipur Pachaura village from where the police recovered the body on Sunday.

The deceased’s brother Nitish Kumar had revealed the names of some suspects to the special investigation team (SIT), which was set up by the SP to crack the case.

The SP announced to suitably reward the members of the SIT led by additional SP Nitish Priya for solving the case within a week.

“Raids are underway to nab others involved in the crime,” Porika told The Telegraph over phone.

Diwakar confessed to the crime and said he decided to eliminate Rakesh to save his daughter’s chastity. “I had no other option than to kill him to protect my daughter. Else, he would have ruined her life,” Diwakar told the interrogators. Rakesh reportedly led a luxurious life.
