Patna: The Gaya police special investigation team (SIT) on Sunday nabbed a prime accused in Wednesday’s gang-rape of a woman and her teenaged daughter, taking the arrests in the shocking case to four.
“The main accused was taken into custody during a raid on Saturday night; we will disclose his identity later,” a senior IPS officer said.
Police sources said the three persons arrested earlier and now in judicial custody – Shivam Sharma, Gaurav Sharma and Dipak Paswan – have confessed. Two of the arrested had earlier been accused of misbehaving with a schoolteacher and molesting a girl.
A forensic team has also found a diary from Wednesday’s crime scene, with names and mobile numbers of several people of the area. A temporary police outpost has been set up near Guraru Bazar, close to the crime scene which is under the jurisdiction of Koch police station.
“That is a crime-prone area and police patrolling is almost negligent on the road at night,” said a police officer.
