Bihar Governor Satya Pal Mallik and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today congratulated shooter Shreyasi Singh on winning the gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games.
In his message, Mallik called Singh “a daughter of Bihar” and showered praise on the 26-year-old for “doing her state and her country proud”.
Singh’s mother Putul Kumari is the sitting MP from Banka Lok Sabha constituency in the state. Her late father Digvijaya Singh represented the same seat during his lifetime, and was also a Union minister and president of the National Rifles Association.
Chief Minister Nitish Kumar greeted Singh, recalling her “roots in Bihar”, and extended his best wishes for her “bright future”.
“Bihar’s daughter has put Prime Minister’s call for ‘beti bachao, beti padhao’ in golden letters by winning the gold medal in double trap shooting event at the Commonwealth Games,” Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi said in a tweet.
