Patna: A 35-year-old man killed his wife, injured his son and then tried to commit suicide at his Sheo Nagar home under Ram Krishna Nagar police station area on Wednesday night.

Sushma Devi, 30, died on the spot while husband Nilesh Kumar is undergoing treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital. Their nine-year-old son Rohit is admitted to Ford hospital in Bypass.

Neighbours were alerted by the child’s screams on Wednesday night, Ram Krishna Nagar police sources said. “Around 9pm we heard the child crying. We could also hear the couple fighting over something,” house owner Vinay Kumar said. “On entering Nilesh’s house, we saw the wife lying in a pool of blood. Her throat was slit. Nilesh and Rohit too bore throat injuries.”

The neighbours alerted Ram Krishna Nagar police. “When we reached the spot we found the wife dead,” station house officer (SHO) Ranjan Kumar said. “Nilesh and his son Rohit are battling between life and death. The police immediately rushed them to hospitals.” Ranjan said: “The son is admitted to Ford hospital and Nilesh to PMCH.” Police said they are out of danger.

The police have lodged a case against Nilesh under sections 302 and 309 of IPC. Police sources said Nilesh worked as medical attendant at Shiva Hospital in Khemni Chak. His wife was a medical attendant at Sai hospital but quit her job two months back. The police learnt the couple fought regularly. “Those committing such crimes are short-tempered,” clinical psychologist Brinda Singh said. “They take drastic steps, attack others or hurt themselves too, in a fit of rage or when provoked by someone.”
