MLA gets extortion threat
1 min readBettiah: RJD legislator from Dhaka, Faisal Rahman, received an extortion call on Saturday asking him to cough up Rs 10 lakh or risk having his family members abducted if the demands were not met in a couple of days.
Saturday’s call was the latest after two similar calls in the past. The call came from a cellphone.
“Ae vidhayak Dhaka ka, do din me 10 lakh pahucha do nahi toh do din me tumhare parivar ke kisi ko utha lenge (attention Dhaka legislator, send Rs 10 lakh in two days we will abduct somebody from your family in two days),” Faisal quoted the extortionist as telling him.
Speaking from Katihar, the Dhaka MLA said he had informed senior superintendent of police (SSP) Manu Maharaaj about the incident. “I have already lodged two FIRs after receiving calls demanding a ransom of Rs 20 lakh on September 12 and the second one on September 26,” he said. One of the calls were made from Nepal, he said.
Coming down heavily on the Nitish government, he added: “Even after such a long time the police has failed to make any breakthrough. The entire system has collapsed under NDA. If a public representative is treated like this, the plight of a common people can only be anybody’s guess.”
” Is sarkar me koi sunne wala nahi hai (there is none to hear in this government). I chose to apprise the then DGP, the Speaker and the chief minister too, but in vain.”
