Only 8,123 in jail for liquor offences: CM Nitish Kumar
1 min readPATNA: CM Nitish Kumar on Thursday refuted reports that more than one lakh people were in jail for liquor offences.
“Around 1.27 lakh people were arrested in connection with the 1.05 lakh FIRs lodged for prohibition violation since it was enforced in April 2016,” the CM said at a function organised in Patna on Thursday to mark two years of prohibition and added as on March 12 this year, only 8,123 persons were behind bars for liquor law offences.
“The prisons in the state don’t have the capacity to house these many inmates,” he added.
