Patna celebrates World Sparrow day
1 min readSparrows, once considered household birds, are sadly a rare sight in the cities these days. To mark the World Sparrow Day, students of Patna Women’s College, St. Xavier’s College of Management and Technology, along with S.R. Vidyapeeth School and Mount Carmel High School held a peaceful demonstration before Mount Carmel School. The gathering was all about creating awareness about the home sparrows and the other common birds that are facing threats due to urbanization, pollution and deforestation.
“This informal gathering is to sensitise students for serious cause,” said Shehla Yasmin, HOD of Zoology Department, Patna Women’s College. “We should start by doing smaller things like keeping water in our balconies or some rice grains for the birds,” added Yasmin.
Sparrow Day is celebrated throughout the world, with the theme – ‘I LOVE Sparrows’. Ragini Kumar, a student of Class VIII, said, “It’s our responsibility to save the biodiversity. Today it’s for the birds we are raising awareness, tomorrow it will be for human life.”
