Pregnant woman beaten to death for dowry

Katihar: A pregnant woman was beaten to death, allegedly for dowry by her husband in Katihar district of Bihar.

Police officials said the deceased has been identified as Manju Devi (24), who was married to one Pankaj Mandal around two years ago at Baretakbalsia village under Phalka police station in the district.

Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rakesh Kumar said according to preliminary investigations Manju was being tortured by her husband and in-laws for dowry.

As they beat her up severely during the wee hours on Sunday, she succumbed.Kumar said the matter came to light when somebody informed the woman’s parents, who rushed to the village. They informed the police after they discovering their daughter dead.

The SDPO said an FIR has been lodged on the statement of Manju’s mother and brother. Pankaj and his family members are absconding after the incident.
