Patna: Three masked criminals robbed Rs 10 lakh from a micro-finance company at Naubatpur in rural Patna on Monday morning.

The criminals struck L&T Micro Finance branch at Naubatpur Bazaar around 8.30am when only branch manager Vijay Kumar was at work. He told the police in his complaint that three persons entered the branch with their faces covered and demanded the key to the cash locker.

Vijay said in the FIR with Naubatpur police station that he initially tried to mislead the criminals by saying he did not have the keys.

The gang, however, assaulted Vijay on his refusal to hand over the keys and went ahead to search the premises. Once they found the keys to the locker, they tied up Vijay’s hands and legs and robbed Rs 10 lakh in the locker.

The criminals locked the entrance gate from the outside during the theft, and threatened the manager against reporting the case to the police while leaving 15 minutes later.

Vijay raised an alarm immediately as the criminals left.

Ramakant Prasad, the sub-divisional police officer of Phulwari under which Naubatpur police station falls, said: “There are several loose ends. There were many people at the spot at the time of the crime, but the manager did not shout for help.

“The branch manager had to submit the daily collection to the head office, but he kept the three-day collection (Friday to Sunday) in the branch locker,” he said, keeping all options open.

Ramakant also said a staff member was in the office earlier but had been asked to leave by Vijay. “When the staff member reached the office after 15 minutes, the branch manager did not ask him to free him, but made a video call to his seniors at head office in Patna.”

The police also claimed when they reached the spot, Vijay was found loosely tied up.
