Tejashwi to stage dharna in national capital to protest Bihar rapes
2 min readThe leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav is upping the ante on Chief Minister Nitish Kumar shifting his protest over the Muzaffarpur rapes from Patna to the national capital.
Tejashwi will be sitting on a dharna in Delhi on 4th August at Jantar Mantar to raise the issue of the 34 rapes that took place in a govt-aided shelter home in Muzaffarpur.
“Muzaffarpur incident is painful and it has not only shamed Bihar but people across the country are outraged. Nitish is trying to shield the persons who are accused in this case,” said Tejashwi Yadav, RJD leader.
Speaking to Mail Today, Tejashwi Yadav confirmed the participation of other opposition leaders including Congress President Rahul Gandhi and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal who have extended support to him on the issue. All the RJD MPs’s in the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha will also participate in the dharna.
“My dharna is non-political and I have invited leaders from all opposition parties to participate. Rahul Gandhi and Arvind Kejriwal have confirmed their attendance. I am also expecting former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav to come and support us,” said the RJD leader.
According to the plan, soon after staging dharna at Jantar Mantar, Tejaswi will be leading a candle march to India gate along with other leaders.
On Thursday, the CPI(ML) had RJD had also extended support called for a Bihar bandh to protest the rape of 34 girls in the shelter home. RJD had extended their support to this bandh call given by the left parties.
It may be mentioned that the Supreme Court on Thursday took cognizance of the Muzaffarpur incident and issued notice to the Bihar govt and Centre and sought their response in this case till 7th of August.
