UP deputy CM sued for Sita remark
1 min readPATNA: A complaint case was filed against Uttar Pradesh deputy CM Dinesh Sharma in Sitamarhi on Saturday for his reference to Sita as the first test-tube baby of the country. Thakur Chandan Kumar Singh, a lawyer, filed the case in the court of chief judicial magistrate Saroj Kumari on Saturday. The matter will be heard on June 8.
Singh told TOI over phone that the complaint case has been filed under sections 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) and 120B (criminal conspiracy) of the Indian Penal Code.
While addressing a function in Lucknow on May 31, Sharma had said, “It is said Sita was born in a ghada (pitcher). At that point of time, some project of test-tube baby existed. Janak (Sita’s father) used a plough and a baby came out from the pitcher. She became Sitaji. This is some kind of technology which is similar to today’s test-tube baby.”
Singh said Sharma’s statement was a deliberate act. “He had made the statement keeping in mind the upcoming general elections. The silence of BJP leadership has proved this,” the lawyer added.
