PATNA: The Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) has started physical verification of top rank holders of matriculation (Class X) examination at its headquarters. The verification will continue till Tuesday. The results will be announced on June 20.

The parents of some toppers, however, expressed their displeasure over the way the board official asked their wards to report to the BSEB’s office or their results will be put on hold.

“Such an attitude is unacceptable. I received the call from the board official only on Saturday afternoon (June 16) to report by Sunday noon. When I asked them to give at least a day or two, they threatened to keep my daughter’s results pending,” said one of the parents at the BSEB office on Monday.

A student had to fly from Delhi to attend the physical verification. “I reached Patna on Monday morning and directly came to the board’s office. I had gone to Kota after writing my papers to prepare for admission in any top engineering college. When my parents received the call from the board office, they first sought some more time, but the official on phone refused and asked them to send me for physical verification and other tests,” said a candidate, who claimed to have topped in Class X examination.

Most of the toppers hail from Aurangabad, Begusarai, Bettiah, Bhagalpur, Jamui, Rohtas and Sitamarhi districts. The verification started on Sunday. All the toppers have to go through several tests, including viva voce, matching their handwriting with the answer copies and their practical knowledge of the subjects.

The board also verified the birth certificate and other documents of the candidates. The board has constituted an experts’ team for the purpose.

The board had also verified Class XII toppers and withheld the results of 3-4 students for not turning up at the BSEB office.

Around 17.6 lakh candidates appeared for the Class X exam conducted by the BSEB from February 21 to 28.
