Promotion for PU teachers in 3 months

1 min read

Patna: The education department has told Patna University to finish all pending work related to promotion of teachers within three months, education minister Krishna Nandan Verma told the Legislative Council on Monday through a written reply.

He was replying to a call attention motion by Nawal Kishore Yadav in which the BJP MLC had said that lecturers appointed in 2003 had been promoted to reader rank in universities of the state, except PU. Nawal alleged that the PU administration was keeping the promotions pending in the name of procedural issues due to which teachers were suffering. There was talk, Nawal said, that only teachers with personal access to the vice-chancellor (VC) were getting promotion.

Minister Verma replied that PU has said it was promoting teachers in accordance with assessment reports from the experts being submitted. The reply said that the teachers of subjects mentioned in the motion — Hindi, English, Urdu, domestic science, and history — would soon be promoted. Verma said that the department had written a letter to PU on Monday, asking it to clear all pending work related to promotion of teachers within three months.

PU sources said promotion of around 100 teachers was pending for four years, and some promotions were done last year but there were charges of favouritism.
