Banka: Police have claimed that three Maoists – Prem Rai, Manoj Khaira and Nakul Modi – surrendered on April 28, prompted by tight policing following the arrest of CPI (Maoist) area sub zonal commander of Banka-Belhar Suresh Marandi on April 27.

According to Banka superintendent of police (SP) Chandan Kushwaha, Suresh was held from his native village, Pilua, under the jurisdiction of Chandan police station in the district with arms and ammunition. He had taken charge after the killing of Mantu Khaira in a police encounter last year and was wanted by the police for crimes mainly registered against him in Chandan (Anandpur) police station.

Kushwaha said Suresh was interrogated after arrest, which led to the recovery of a self-loading rifle (SLR), 120 rounds of SLR cartridges, two empty SLR magazines, three magazine chargers, hand grenades and other items. He gave many vital clues to the police, the SP said.
