Two arrested for killing havildar in Vaishali

PATNA: The Vaishali police on Friday arrested Prince Kumar (19) and Amit Kumar (21) for alleged involvement freeing a prisoner Prince Kumar after killing havildar Ram Ekbal Ram (50) in front Hajipur civil court on April 3.
Vaishali SP Rakesh Kumar said that a bike used in the killing was also recovered by police from possession of the duo.

The havildar was shot twice when he was escorting the prisoner back to lock up of the district court after producing him before juvenile justice board which is located on the opposite side of the road in Hajipur town. The havildar later succumbed to the bullet injuries. The prisoner along with handcuff had fled on bike with his associated.

The SP said that the duo were arrested from their native village Paigambarpur Goriwama under Garaul police station area. “Both were associated with the escaped prisoner for a long time,” he said adding the escaped prisoner was yet to be nabbed.

He said that the arrested accused had told police that altogether six suspects were involved in killing the havildar and freeing the prisoner.

“The other four suspects are Bhakua who is accused in several criminal cases, Sakal Deep, Umashankar Kumar and Surjit Kumar alias Thapchi,” he said adding Umashakar is accused in murder case of his wife. He also said that Surjit had come out of jail just two months back.

Meanwhile, Town police station SHO Sunil Kumar said that it was Umashankar who had opened fire from on the havildar using a semi-automatic country made pistol. “The conspiracy to free Prince was hatched almost a fortnight back,” he added.
