Evelyn Sharma says her Punjabi blood helped her in Bollywood
1 min readDespite not growing up in India, Evelyn Sharma decided to embark on a career in Hindi films.
And, the actress says that having a Punjabi father helped her make inroads in Bollywood.
She adds, “Having grown up in Germany, I was exposed to a completely different culture.
“However, my Punjabi side has come to my rescue whenever I have needed it. It’s been a roller-coaster of a ride in the industry since Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani (2013) hit the screens.
“More than learning the language, learning how to dance has been the toughest thing. Germans are quite stiff, you know (laughs).
“But thank God for the Punjabi blood, because that’s helped me overcome the hurdle.
“But what’s been even more difficult to navigate is how people judge you based on what they read about you.”
Ask her about the co-stars she enjoys working with and Evelyn is quick to add, “So far, Ranbir Kapoor (Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani) has been delightful to work with because he has none of the trappings of stardom.
“That quality makes a man charming. He was supportive and motivated me to do my best.
“Also, I enjoyed working with Anushka Sharma (Jab Harry Met Sejal) because she is humble and down to earth.”
